Traffic Signals

TRAFFIC SIGNALS IN GLENDORA

The City of Glendora is investing in hardware upgrades for the City's aging traffic signal infrastructure.  The City has 55 signaled intersections, and the City shares control of certain traffic signals with various agencies, based on the impacts of those intersections.  The last major project upgrades were done in the 1990s.  Infrastructure updates will include new technology to help effectively control the flow of vehicle traffic and aid in pedestrian safety.

Traffic signals at intersections that may have an impact on traffic flow related to the rail line, including the new Metro A-Line infrastructure, are regulated by the Public Utilities Commission (PUC), and the Rail Authority, and are controlled by Foothill Gold Line Construction Authority for approximately a year prior to their transition to joint control between the City of Glendora and rail operators.

CALTRANS HSIP PROJECT - (Cycle 11 Approved and Ready for Bid)

The Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) is a core federal-aid program with the purpose to achieve a significant reduction in traffic fatalities and serious injuries on all public roads. Effective October 8, 2019, Senate Bill 137 allows Caltrans to deliver certain HSIP projects using state funds rather than federal funds. California’s Local HSIP focuses on infrastructure projects with nationally recognized crash reduction factors. Local HSIP projects must be identified based on crash experience, crash potential, crash rate, or other data-supported means.

Cycle 11 includes installing protected left turn phasing on six intersections, converting signals from pedestal mounted to mast arm mounted lights (two intersections) and the installation of high visibility crosswalks at all eight intersections.

We will also be doing improved lighting, ADA curb ramps, curb extensions upgrading the pedestrian push buttons, upgrading the signal controller and cabinets.
