Public Works

The Public Works Department is responsible for the City's streets, sidewalks, the orderly movement of traffic, capital projects, public improvements, assessment districts, City owned buildings, maintaining the City's fleet, operating the water system and the building and safety functions.

External services include providing water to the majority of the residents in the City, providing plan review and inspection services for development and construction, conducting studies for traffic improvements, contracting for public improvements, maintaining the streets and sidewalks, the water conservation program and maintaining and constructing public facilities.

Internal services include the implementation of capital projects for all departments, providing engineering services for all departments, maintaining and constructing City buildings, maintaining the City's rolling fleet, implementing our water conservation program and providing plan review and inspection for City projects.

The Director of Public Works is appointed by the City Manager and responsible for the oversight of the departmental functions, implementing an annual budget of over $27 million dollars and ensuring optimum customer service to our public. The director ensures compliance with the Streets and Highways Code, the Public Contract Code, Health and Safety Code and our adopted building codes. The director works closely with several appointed boards and committees, including the Water Commission.

The Engineering Division is responsible for design, administration, and management of all budgeted Capital Improvement Program (CIP) projects in the City.

Parks and Landscape Maintenance

The Parks and Landscape Division is responsible for the maintenance of all the City's landscape areas, medians, wilderness areas and public parks. This maintenance also includes the city trees that make Glendora so beautiful.

Public Works Permit Application and Plan Review

The City of Glendora Engineering Division has implemented an electronic plan submittal and permitting program. The program will allow plans and permit fees to be submitted electronically.

Standard Designs and Specifications

It is the contractors' responsibility to obtain and maintain up-to-date copies of the standard drawings while performing any work in the Public Right-of Way.

Street Maintenance

The Streets Division performs, or oversees, such services as street sweeping, asphalt and concrete repairs, traffic signs and striping, and storm drain maintenance.

Streetlight and Landscape Assessment

The Landscaping and Lighting Act of 1972 permits the establishment of assessment districts by the cities for the purpose of installing and/or constructing new public improvements or servicing and maintaining the certain existing public improvements within the proposed district.

Traffic Signals

The City of Glendora is investing in hardware upgrades for the City's aging traffic signal infrastructure. The City has 55 signaled intersections, and the City shares control of certain traffic signals with various agencies, based on the impacts of those intersections.

Where do I apply for a Public Works permit?

Any work within the public right of way requires a permit to be pulled with Public Works. Pool drainage permits are also issued by the Public Works Department. You can apply for a permit on our Public Works Permit Application page.
