Recreation

Camperships are provided for Glendora residents from Glendora Coordinating Council and cover up to $150 per child for Dirt Camp or other contracted camps/classes offered through the Recreation & Human Services Department. Any camp or class exceeding this amount will need to be covered by the parent or guardian. Child must meet age and grade requirements for the interested camp/class.

A limited number of Camperships are accepted each week and are considered on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications must be submitted with the required and applicable documents for each child applying. Missing documents will delay consideration for approval. Applications for Summer will be accepted beginning Monday, April 6.

The purpose for creating a nonprofit organization was to help ensure that Glendora 's facilities, programs and services of the future can continue to meet the community's needs, the Glendora Community Services Foundation partners with the City by providing financial support to enhance services beyond the capabilities of local tax revenues by doing the following:

The Glendora Community Services Foundation is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) charitable organization that partners with the City of Glendora to aide, sponsor, promote, advance and assist in the provisions, development and maintenance of public parks, recreation and community services and provide financial support to enhance the services of the City of Glendora. We do this by encouraging and soliciting support. Together our mission is to foster the recreational, educational, environmental and cultural life of our community by encouraging and soliciting support for our city's park system.

Annually, the Community Services Commission honors individual Glendorans for their outstanding volunteer service to the youth and senior citizens of our community. These individuals are the recipients of awards named for individuals who were recognized and remembered for their commitment to community service above self. This year we will be recognizing individuals deserving of the 55th Annual Ed Kirkpatrick Award, the 46th Annual William E. "Buck" Dunham Award, and the 29th Annual Ruth Harper Award. These awards have been named for outstanding citizens who have distinguished themselves by deed, accomplishment, or volunteerism.

Edgar "ED" Kirkpatrick Award

The first City of Glendora-sponsored perpetual volunteerism award was named after Edgar "Ed" Kirkpatrick. Ed was an outstanding Glendora youth, young adult sports figure, and citizen. Ed signed with the California Angels as a catcher in 1962 just after graduation from high school. Today, the Edgar "Ed" Kirkpatrick Award continues to be awarded to an outstanding adult who has provided exemplary and extraordinary service to the youth of Glendora in the area of sports.

William E. "Buck" Dunham Award

Glendora is acknowledged as one of the most volunteer-oriented communities in the San Gabriel Valley. As such, the originating commission recognized that adults volunteer in numerous youth-oriented activities. In order to acknowledge these volunteers, a second award was created. This award was named in honor of William E. "Buck" Dunham and is awarded to an individual who has made outstanding contributions to the youth of Glendora in an area other than sports.

Ruth Harper Award

Glendora also honors individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the community's senior population. This award is named in honor of Ruth Harper. Ruth was a tireless worker and volunteer for the seniors of Glendora. Her tenacity on behalf of senior services was instrumental in laying the foundation for the programs and services that Glendora seniors enjoy today.

Who Can Volunteer?

Community members who are at least 13 years of age and who are interested in giving back to the community.

How Do I Become a Volunteer?

• Complete the Volunteer Application(PDF, 392KB).
• If you are under the age of 18, a parent or guardian must sign this Waiver (link to waiver) before you can begin your assignment.
• Once a volunteer position is confirmed, fingerprinting and a background check will take place. (Volunteers aged 13-17, skip this step.)
• You will be contacted by the assigned coordinator to determine start date and time.

One- Day Volunteers (once a year) - Volunteers who would like to volunteer for only one day in a calendar year, please complete the Volunteer Application (link to application) and a coordinator will contact you to determine assignment.

Court Ordered Volunteers- The City of Glendora is very limited to accept court ordered volunteers. If you are trying to fulfill court mandated hours, please contact the Volunteer Center of San Gabriel Valley at 626-844-3410 (this agency is not affiliated with the City of Glendora)

How do I volunteer to be a CIT (Counselor in Training)?

The CIT Program is a volunteer opportunity for teens to assist with Dirt Camp and gain hands-on experience. Participants will support camp staff with daily activities, building leadership and teamwork skills. Participants must be entering 9th grade to be eligible.

Applications will be accepted beginning Monday, April 6 through Friday, May 15. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

The Glendora Community Services Foundation's Youth Service Award is to recognize and award Glendora's Youth for their Community Service contributions throughout the year or their dedication and hard work within the Recreation and Human Services Department. The Community Services Foundation will award a total of $2,000 to the confirmed recipient(s) as voted on by the Community Services Foundation Board Members.

Applicant Requirements

Candidates must meet all of the following requirements:

• Candidate must be between the ages of 6 and 25
• Candidates must contribute services within the Glendora City limits
• Candidates must Volunteer and provide Community Services contributions to Glendora residents, organizations, businesses, schools or religious entities or be employed by the City of Glendora
• Candidates between the ages of 6-18 must be enrolled in school and maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher
