RED FLAG WARNING in effect for Los Angeles and surrounding counties, Tuesday - Wednesday (1/7-1/8)

  • Widespread destructive windstorm with dangerous PDS Red Flag conditions likely Tuesday afternoon-early Wednesday afternoon across San Gabriel mountains, San Gabriel/San Fernando Valleys (especially foothills), Beverly Hills/Hollywood Hills, coastal areas adjacent to Sepulveda Pass, Santa Monica mountains, Malibu, and eastern Ventura valleys (mainly near Simi Valley/Moorpark) 
  • Sustained winds 35-60 mph (highest in the mountains), damaging gusts 50-80 mph, except 80-100 mph San Gabriel mountains and portions of the Highway 118/210 corridors (especially foothills). 
  • Areas in a Red Flag Warning (especially during PDS time frame) will have increased risk for large fires with very rapid fire spread, extreme fire behavior, and long range spotting
  • High risk for widespread downed trees/powerlines and power outages across LA/Ventura counties.
