Update to Glendora's Fire Hazard Severity Zones 

On Tuesday, March 25, Glendora City Manager Adam Raymond provided an update during the City Council Meeting on CalFire's recent update to the Fire Hazard Severity Zones, including impacts to Glendora's wilderness areas.  The City has 120 days to adopt new maps via ordinance. The March 2025 update reflected; 

  • 5,149 acres designated very high
  • 578 acres designated high
  • 555 acres designated moderate
  • 27.3% in very high designations
  • 55% increase overall

What are Fire Hazard Severity Zones?

The State Fire Marshal is mandated to classify lands within State Responsibility Areas into Fire Hazard Severity Zones (FHSZ). Fire Hazard Severity Zones fall into one of the following classifications:

  • Moderate
  • High
  • Very High

The California laws that require Fire Hazard Severity Zones include California Public Resources Code 4201-4204, California Code of Regulations Title 14, Section 1280 and California Government Code 51175-89.
